COWBOYS and ALIEN – MOVIE POSTER

Here is probably a fan-made movie poster for the upcoming flick Cowboys and Aliens starring Daniel Craigand Harrison Ford.

Cowboys and Aliens

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

Co-starring Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Noah Ringer, Clancy Brown, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, and directed by Jon Favreau.

The script for Cowboys and Aliens is by Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof (television’s Lost), based on Platinum Studios’ graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Grazer, Howard, Rosenberg, Kurtzman and Orci produce. Steven Spielberg and Denis L. Stewart executive produce.

Cowboys and Aliens opens nationwide on July 29, 2011 and Favreau has affirmed that the action fantasy movie will not be made in 3-D.

What do you think about the new poster? Fan-made or ?

Film: The Social Network On DVD and Blu-Ray January 11 - MOVIE POSTER
The Social Network On DVD and Blu-Ray January 11 – MOVIE POSTER

Two years ago, when I first blogged about The Social Network, I poked fun at the notion that a film about Facebook would be “a compelling piece of cinema, a pre-ordained critical darling destined for box office success.” (“Poked” … get it? Didja get it?)

Even with the participation of screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, producer Scott Rudin, musician Trent Reznor and director David Fincher, I was skeptical about how a movie chronicling the founding of Facebook would turn out. Well, not only is The Social Network still my favorite film of 2010, it seems to be everyone’s favorite, earning the top spot on numerous critics’ lists and garnering a shit-ton of award nominations.

On Tuesday, January 11, The Social Network will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray. The two-disc set will be jam-packed with extras, including two commentary tracks, a feature-length documentary (How Did They Ever Make a Movie of Facebook?), and a half-dozen featurettes.

The movie itself is a pure triumph, with solid acting across the board from stars Jesse Eisenberg, Rooney Mara, Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer, and Justin Timberlake. Sorkin’s masterful screenplay pop and crackles with dialogue reminiscent of classic screwball comedies. Reznor’s score is appropriately haunting, and Fincher brings his trademark visual flair to the proceedings. Seriously, the regatta scene, set to “In The Hall of the Mountain King,” is fucking breathtaking. Check it out below.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, you still have an opportunity to catch it on the big screen (where I saw it twice). On Friday, the film was re-released in about 600 nationwide theaters in an effort to take advantage of all the awards hype and to, maybe, cross the $100 million mark domestically. (The Social Network has grossed $94 million in the US and over $200 million worldwide.)

You can also order The Social Network from Amazon. Or you can be like me and trek to Best Buy the morning of the 11th. Ha!

BATMAN 3 MOVIE POSTER

Posted on 18 January 2011 by Latest Movie

Last week, a couple of fan-made Batman posters made their way around the interweb, causing quite a stir because of their near-professional level design. The posters were very detailed, seemed to stay within the spirit of what Christopher Nolan has done in his interpretation of the Batman mythos, and they touted The Riddler as the main villain. Very cool, indeed.

But then my man Josh MC over at DeviantART said, “Meh. Whatevs, I can do better.” And in my opinion, he has.

Josh stayed with the concept of individual charater posters a la The Dark Knight, creating one not only for The Riddler, but for Catwoman and Harley Quinn as well. Furthermore, his inspiration includes some ingenious cast suggestions for these roles.

I’m in love with the Harley Quinn design, as you can tell. Click the image below to get a full view, then hit the jump to peep The Riddler and Catwoman.
